In addition to our solid coloured foals, we have also been breeding coloured warmbloods for the last five years, using imported frozen semen from German bred stallions. This has been a slow process, because we wanted to ensure that we bred not just for colour, but also for the desirable warmblood characteristics of athleticism, balance, movement, and temperament. Many of the coloured “warmbloods” currently offered for sale are in fact part quarter horse, whereas our primary goal is to breed a fully competitive warmblood which happens to have the bonus of colour, rather than a coloured horse with a bit of warmblood thrown in.
We have been extremely pleased with our results to date, as we now have 2 fillies, full sisters, who are out of a Brentano 11 mare by Sinclair B, a stallion bred by Gwen Gregorio of Gestut Falkenhorst. We visited Gwen a few years ago when we were in Germany, at her stud (complete with ancient castle!) in Thuringia. Gwen has been breeding coloured warmbloods for many years. You can visit her site here.
Both Brentano and Sinclair are renowned for passing on their wonderful temperaments to their progeny, and these two fillies are an absolute delight to handle.
Sinclair was bred and licensed in Germany. He is registered Bavarian and been approved for breeding in Stud Book I of Rheinland Pfalz Saar International (RPSI), a German Warmblood Registry. Sinclair’s pedigree boats amongst others, Sambuco B, Samber, Pericles, Hyperion, Man O' War, Der Löwe, Lugano II, Duellant, Domspatz, Maharadscha and Senator.
Sinclair has produced a large number of premium foals. Southern Star, who was from his first crop, was approved by the Hessen Verband in 1997 His son, Sonny Boy, is presently standing as a stallion in Indonesia and his grandson, Multicolor, has been approved in Germany and was Reserve Champion of his approval test. Another son, Smooth Design, has been awarded Premium Stallion status during his 2005 stallion approval in Germany. In 2006 Multicolor II was awarded his stallion approval in Germany.
We are also delighted that we have bred a coloured colt with completely unrelated lines to the fillies, being by Icon, out of a Ludendorf mare. He is only two, but is a beautifully conformed and beautifully marked colt.
His sire, Icon, was bred in the Rhineland by Herman Schneider at Gestut Sonnehof. We also visited Hermann and Icon while we were in Germany. Icon is an extremely elegant stallion, with great presence.
